IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today provided RM2,000 in initial assistance to the family of three siblings involved in a road accident in Tambun that claimed the lives of two of them and left another seriously injured.

The contribution was handed over by Tambun Parliamentary Community Service Centre officer Muhammad Izzudin Hariz Bohari on behalf of Anwar, who is also the Tambun member of parliament.

Tambun Parliamentary Community Service Centre officer Ashraf Kahasani said Anwar had instructed the centre to provide the initial assistance to the family.

"The Prime Minister also conveyed his condolences to the victims' family and asked us to provide the assistance directly to the next of kin to help ease their burden.

"If further assistance is needed for the other victim who was injured and is currently being treated in hospital, we will look into how we can help," he said when met by reporters after the contribution was presented at the victim's family home in Taman Bagus, Tambun, here.

The accident, which occurred around 7.20am today, claimed the lives of a 19-year-old girl who was riding a Yamaha EZ115 and her nine-year-old sister.

Another sibling, aged 12, who was also riding pillion, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The victims' eldest sister, Nurul Aeina Ibrahim, 28, said she learnt about the accident involving her three siblings from their school teacher around 8am.

She said, however, that she was only informed of the accident and was not told that her sisters had died.

"It was only when I reached the scene that I was told they were gone," she said.

Nurul Aeina said Norhayati Qaliesha, who survived the incident, had yet to be told about her two sisters' deaths as she remained in critical condition.

The two victims killed in the crash, Elyana Nasuha and her younger sister Suhaila, were buried in a single grave at the Tambun Muslim Cemetery here around 6.30 pm.

Meanwhile, Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) chief executive officer Syamsul Hazeman Md Salleh said MAIPk would bear the cost of the funeral arrangements for the two siblings.

He said the council would also provide necessary assistance to their surviving sister, who was seriously injured in the crash.

"MAIPk provides funeral management assistance for families who are unable to afford the costs, as well as for deceased persons without next of kin," he said in a statement.
