Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has sworn in his former Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, and former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Balarabe Gani, as commissioners.

Bature was appointed Commissioner for Information, while Gani will oversee the Ministry of Solid Minerals.

The two commissioners were sworn in at the Government House, Kano, on Friday night by the state Attorney-General, Abdulkareem Maude.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf urged the new commissioners to discharge their duties with dedication, humility, transparency and accountability in line with his administration’s Kano First Agenda.

“Public office is a public trust and commitment. So, I urge you to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and discipline in the discharge of your responsibilities,” the governor was quoted as saying.

Yusuf tasked Bature, who previously served as Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, with ensuring the timely and effective dissemination of government information.

He also urged him to intensify public sensitisation on the dangers of drug abuse, illicit drugs and tobacco consumption.

The governor directed the Information Commissioner to work with the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to strengthen public awareness campaigns.

Yusuf charged Gani to work towards making the solid minerals sector a significant contributor to the state’s economic growth.

He said the appointments were based on merit, competence and integrity, expressing confidence in the commissioners’ ability to contribute to the state’s development.

The governor also commended the state lawmakers, led by Speaker Jibril Ismaila Falgore, for their cooperation in the screening and confirmation of the nominees.
