Egypt Facilitates Safe Passage of 15 Stranded Sailors from Ukraine to Moldova

Translate

Egypt has arranged the safe passage of 15 Egyptian sailors stranded in Ukraine into neighbouring Moldova on Monday, 12 October, where they are awaiting the earliest available flight back to Egypt.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty directed the ministry’s Consular Affairs Sector and Egypt’s embassies in Ukraine and Romania to expedite the sailors’ return.

The Egyptian embassy in Romania is also accredited to Moldova on a non-resident basis.

The sailors had been serving aboard vessels exposed to military operations in the Black Sea.

To facilitate their departure, the embassies secured the required transit visas for Moldova, obtained the sailors’ identification documents and coordinated with their employers to arrange travel tickets to Egypt.

The sailors have now crossed into Moldova and are expected to continue their journey home on the next available flight.
