Ogogo’s daughters rally behind Yayi in Ogun governorship race

The daughters of late Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have expressed support for the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 election.

Lima and Kira Ogogo expressed their support for Yayi during a Saturday community clean-up exercise in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, organised by the Gen Z for Yayi support group.

The exercise featured participants wearing branded T-shirts and was promoted on social media with the caption, “EGBA YAYI 📍 Outside with purpose, One community at a time. ABEOKUTA Today📍”

In a video shared by Gen Z for Yayi on Instagram, Lima Ogogo said the initiative was aimed at moving beyond complaints about government and encouraging young people to contribute to their communities.

“As Gen Z’s, we’re used to complaining about what our government is doing for us. But the question should be, what are we doing for the place we call home?”

She said the group had gathered to demonstrate its support for Adeola while contributing to the cleanliness of their community.

“So we’re here to show our support to Senator Adeola Olamilekon Yayi. This is all of us coming here to show our support, seeing our community and being the change ourselves. Yayi ni joor,” she said.

Kira Ogogo also declared her support for the APC candidate in a separate video from the exercise.

“My name is Shakirat Olawunmi Taiwo Omokulodo. So this is our own way of showing support to the incoming governor of Ogun State, Senator Adeola Olamilekon Yayi,” she said.

The sisters’ support comes weeks after the death of their father, who was a prominent figure in Yoruba-language cinema and a native of Ilaro, Ogun State.

Yayi had previously disclosed that he had planned to appoint the late actor as his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture, with cabinet rank, if elected governor in 2027. He made the disclosure during a condolence visit to Ogogo’s family in Ilaro.

“I told God that if it is destined for me to be governor, my elder brother Ogogo will be my Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture. My plan was he will be a Special Adviser that is a cabinet member,” Yayi had said.

Yayi described Ogogo as an elder brother and said the late actor’s experience in acting and knowledge of traditional culture informed his proposed appointment.

Following Ogogo’s death, there have also been calls for Yayi to consider appointing one of his daughters to the position he had intended for their father if he wins the 2027 governorship election.

Ogogo, whose real name was Taiwo Hassan, died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. His death prompted tributes from political leaders and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The latest show of support by his daughters comes against the backdrop of their late father’s relationship with Yayi and the senator’s previously stated plan to involve Ogogo in his administration.
