A boy, 15, has died and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash in north-west Tasmania.

Police believe the boy was driving the vehicle.

What's next?

Tasmania Police is asking the public for information about the crash.

A 15-year-old boy has died in a crash in Tasmania's north-west overnight, while four others were injured.

Tasmania Police said emergency services were called to the scene on Railton Road in Latrobe shortly after 11:45pm on Thursday.

Initial police inquiries suggest the boy who died may have been driving the Holden Rodeo ute when it collided with a Mercedes Benz travelling in the opposite direction.

He died at the scene, while the passengers — two 14-year-old boys from Devonport — were seriously injured.

One was taken to the Launceston General Hospital by the rescue helicopter, while the other was taken to the North West Regional Hospital by ambulance. They are both in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 61-year-old man from Aberdeen in north-west Tasmania, was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

His passenger, a 60-year-old woman from Aberdeen, was taken to the North West Regional Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Railton Road, between Frogmore Lane and River Road, was closed for six hours following the crash as investigators gathered evidence, but has since reopened.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
