Carlos Yulo goes home empty-handed this time from the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships after missing out on the podium in his pet events

MANILA, Philippines – It appears fatigue may have caught up with the Philippines’ gymnastics golden boy Carlos Yulo.

For the second straight final, Carlos Yulo finished off the podium, placing seventh and falling short in his bid to defend his vault crown at the 54th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Sunday, October 25.

A day earlier, Yulo finished eighth and last in the floor exercise final.

Armenia’s Artur Davtyan claimed vault gold with 14.850 points, dethroning Yulo, who ruled the apparatus in 2021 and 2025.

Yulo scored 13.833 points, with 8.033 in execution and 5.600 in difficulty, while incurring a 0.30 penalty.

However, competing in two international events in just one month proved too much for Yulo.

His World Championships campaign came after Yulo captured gold in both men’s floor exercise and vault at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Joining Davtyan on the podium were Great Britain’s Jake Jarman, who took silver with 14.650 points. Norway’s Sebastian Sponevik secured bronze with 14.366 in the eight-man final.

On Saturday, October 24, Yulo finished eighth in the floor exercise final with 13.233 points, recording 7.633 in execution and 5.800 in difficulty, along with a 0.10 stick bonus and a 0.30 penalty.

Floor exercise and vault are among Yulo’s pet events, having won gold in both apparatus at the 2024 Paris Olympics. – Rappler.com
