4 eastbound lanes of Commonwealth Avenue to close for MRT-7 works

MANILA, Philippines — Four eastbound lanes along Batasan/Commonwealth Avenue will be temporarily closed from Saturday to Sunday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

According to the DOTr in an advisory, four lanes from the center of the Eastbound of Commonwealth Avenue from Amity Street to Ilang Ilang street will be temporarily closed from 11 p.m. of Oct. 24 to 4 a.m. of October 25, 2026.

The agency explained that the closure is to make way for the unloading and lifting of escalators for the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7).

“Two lanes of the service road will still be passable during the activity,” the department said.

The DOTr appealed for public cooperation and understanding during the temporary closure, saying the work was part of the government’s efforts to improve public transportation.

The government aims to begin partial operations of the MRT-7 in 2027.

Once fully operational, the railway is expected to cut travel time between Quezon City and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, to about 35 minutes and serve an estimated 300,000 passengers in its first year. /dp
