Yellow Level 1 warning issued for strong winds and waves

The Western Cape coast faces hazardous marine conditions from Saturday, with a Yellow Level 1 warning for winds and waves between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for winds and waves between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas from Saturday to Sunday, 12 to 13 September.

The conditions could make navigation at sea difficult, while small vessels face a risk of capsizing.

Cut-off low brings an advisory

A cut-off low-pressure system developing west of the country will affect the Western and Northern Cape from Sunday into Monday, 13 to 14 September.

The advisory warns of intermittent showers and thundershowers, which could become heavy at times, with possible large amounts of small hail and lightning.

Small stock farmers and members of the public should remain alert as conditions develop, particularly in areas affected by heavy showers, thunderstorms and strong winds.

Extremely high fire danger

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places across the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

Residents in these areas should take extra care with activities that could start veld fires while the dangerous conditions persist.
