At least three people are dead and another is hospitalized after a helicopter appearing to belong to a news outlet crashed Tuesday night in Los Angeles, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said 56 firefighters responded just before 7 p.m. to the crash between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Ave. in Chatsworth.

LAFD Capt. Branden Silverman said the aircraft appeared to be a news helicopter but did not confirm which outlet it was affiliated with.

Four people were assessed at the scene, with three pronounced dead and a fourth transported to a local hospital in unknown condition, according to the department.

One of the victims was a pedestrian in the parking lot, according to Silverman. Authorities did not immediately say whether the other victims were aboard the helicopter or on the ground.

The crash sparked a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers before firefighters extinguished the flames, according to LAFD. No nearby structures were exposed to the fire.

Authorities did not immediately say how many people were aboard the helicopter.
