House mourns passing of former lawmaker, Quirino Gov. Dax Cua

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Wednesday mourned the passing of Quirino Governor and former lawmaker Dakila Carlo “Dax” Cua who passed away at the age of 48 on Tuesday evening. 

Cua served as Quirino governor from 2007 to 2010, and from 2019 until his death. He was also the representative of Quirino’s lone district in the 15th, 16th, and 17th Congress, from 2010 to 2019.

“We remember Governor Dax for his years of dedicated public service and his commitment to the people of Quirino and to strengthening local governance in the Philippines and across the Asia-Pacific region,” the lower chamber wrote in a Facebook post.

“We extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones, especially his wife, Quirino Lone District Rep. Midy N. Cua, and to the people of Quirino whom he faithfully served,” it added.

Cua was also the national president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific, as well as the chairperson of the League of Provinces of the Philippines at the time of his passing. 

His death was confirmed by his close friends and employees. His family and the provincial government are yet to disclose the circumstances of his death. /mr
