DILG chief: Romualdez to be transferred to QC jail within the day

MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez will be transferred to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas within the day on Monday, Sept. 14.

“Approximately 6 p.m.,” Remulla told the Inquirer in a text message.

Earlier, the Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered that Romualdez be transferred to the jail.

Romualdez was arrested while in hospital confinement for a variety of ailments at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City last Sept. 7.

He was transferred to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) last Sept. 12.

PGH director Gerardo Legaspi earlier told the Sandiganbayan that Romualdez was already medically stable and could be discharged at any time.

The former House Speaker faces a plunder case for over P7 billion in alleged kickbacks in various government projects from 2022 to 2025. /das
