2 Laoag cops sacked after being caught counterflowing

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — Two police officers in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, are facing administrative action after being caught counterflowing, an act recorded on video by a passing motorist and condemned by the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO).

Police Col. Joemar Labiano, INPPO  director, said in a statement that counterflowing by police officers would not be tolerated, stressing that police force members should set an example by obeying traffic rules and regulations.

The two officers were initially identified during monitoring and were issued traffic tickets. They were also scheduled to settle their fines with the city treasury, and pending the investigation, the two have been relieved of their posts and placed on administrative duty. 

“INPPO remains committed to accountability, professionalism, and respect for the law. Appropriate action will be taken based on the results of the investigation and in accordance with existing rules and regulations,” Labiano said./coa
