MELAKA, Sept 22 — Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh is expected to announce the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly at 2pm today, paving the way for the 16th state election.

The announcement is expected to be made at Kompleks Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh.

Speculation over an imminent dissolution intensified after the state executive council meeting, usually held on Wednesdays, was brought forward by a day.

Ab Rauf is understood to have chaired the meeting at noon today.

The Chief Minister’s Office has also invited members of the media to a press conference scheduled for 2pm.

In the 2021 Melaka state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 of the 28 seats contested, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured five and Perikatan Nasional (PN) two.

The current state assembly’s term is due to expire on Dec 27. — Bernama
