Cristian Chivu feels Inter were ‘the best version of ourselves’ in tonight’s 3-0 Champions League victory away to Feyenoord, but ‘consistency is what brings results.’

The Nerazzurri were under pressure in Rotterdam and needed to send a response after their 3-1 defeat to Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.

It was certainly that, as they dominated against a Feyenoord side that beat Como here 3-2 and has a notoriously strong home record.

Yann Bisseck, Francesco Pio Esposito and Piotr Zielinski were all on target in a pretty comfortable encounter, and Esposito had another goal ruled inches offside on a Federico Dimarco pass.

Notably, Inter have been criticised for their bad starts to games and it was not since August that they had scored in the opening eight minutes.

Chivu sees Inter back on track

“We have certain values, we understood certain things and put them on the pitch,” Chivu told Sky Sport Italia.

“That doesn’t mean we haven’t done well so far this season. We tried to be the best version of ourselves, it worked today with organisation, intensity and everything we needed for a strong performance in a stadium that is not easy to play in.”

What did the coach mean when saying the team understood certain things?

“We always have discussions after every game, whether it goes well or badly, we try to correct errors and build on our strengths. Sometimes it goes better than others, perhaps we understood what wasn’t going as well,” said Chivu.

“The Inter world, the club owners, the fans, we are all aware of the values of these players who want to fly the flag high, that has never been in doubt.”

Another recurring problem so far this season has been a lack of consistency throughout the 90 minutes, but this evening they always seemed to be in control.

“Consistency is what brings results, it gives you self-confidence and belief in what you are doing, it is what we are looking for at this moment. This game gives us a big boost of confidence in what we are building, so we know football can take you down some strange paths, but you must be able to react and get back onto the right path,” concluded the Inter coach.

This result allows Inter to climb up the Champions League table, but they still have only six points from four games, so it will be a fight to the end in order to scrape into the next round.
