Okinawan businesses lament stricter rules for drone flights

Following a revision to Japan’s drone law on July 14 that expanded no-fly zones to protect critical facilities from terrorist attacks, cases of purportedly illegal flights have emerged in Okinawa Prefecture.

Investigative sources said they have already confirmed more than 10 cases.

In Okinawa, where many defense-related facilities such as U.S. military bases are located, extensive areas are covered by the new regulations, which opens up the possibility of drone users unintentionally violating the law.
