Over 12,000 examinees take final day of bar exams

MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of examinees flocked to testing centers across the country on Sunday for the final day of the bar examinations.

The third and final day of exams cover criminal law, remedial law, legal and judicial ethics with practical exercises.

A total of 12,029 examinees were present in 15 local testing centers (LTCs) on Sept. 6, the first day of exams, the Supreme Court said.

Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan, this year’s bar exam chair, said last week that there was an increase in the number of examinees compared to previous years.

He said results will be released tentatively in early January.

Mom bar takers

Female candidates made up the majority of the examinees at 6,773 (56.3 percent), while males accounted for 5,256 (43.7 percent).

“If I may share, among the most interesting or the numerous requests that we received this year [were] moms who [wished] to bring breast pumps inside the LTC,” bar head Cheska Pazziuagan said earlier.

“This shows that we have so many examinees who just gave birth, who are moms, who are wives, and despite those family circumstances and other struggles in life, they still showed up and went to take the Bar,” she added.

The high court said 304 examinees were persons with disabilities, while 285 were senior citizens.

The youngest examinee was 24 years old while the oldest is 84 years old.

The first day of the Bar covered political and public international law, and commercial law and taxation.

The second day, held on Sept. 9, was on civil law and land titles, as well as deeds and labor law, and social legislation. /cb
