Soweto Derby: ‘Kaizer Chiefs should’ve buried Orlando Pirates’

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz believes his team should have buried Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium.

The Buccaneers walked away with maximum points and claimed the bragging rights with a 2-1 win over the Glamour Boys.

Yanela Mbuthuma and Tshepang Moremi score for Pirates on the day while Amakhosi’s only goal of the game was scored by Pule Mmodi.

Chiefs had two golden opportunities early in the first half with Wandile Duba complicating things, blasting his effort towards Sipho Chaine who made a brilliant save.

Now, while Da Cruz admits they lost to an experienced and in-form Pirates, he still of the view that Chiefs should have easily won the match.

SOWETO DERBY: DA CRUZ SAYS KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD HAVE BURIED ORLANDO PIRATES

“In the first half, we must have killed this game,” said Da Cruz on SuperSport TV.

“Normally, 2-0 or 3-0 because the goal of Pirates, we’ve seen that it’s offside and maybe there was [supposed to be] a red card as well.

“If we had scored two or three goals, we were going to kill this game,” added Da Cruz.

“In the second half, the last 20 minutes, with our young players we lacked experience. They didn’t create chances because we have a lack of experience, we gave them chances to score more goals.
