Boy rushed to hospital after being trampled by cow in the middle of the night

A boy in his early teens was rushed to hospital after he was trampled by a steer at a cattle yard west of Brisbane in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Paramedics were called at 12.25am to the Dalby Regional Saleyards, where they found the teen in a life-threatening condition due to significant chest injuries.

He was rushed to Dalby Hospital then later transferred to the Toowoomba Hospital, where he was in a stable condition by 8am.

Western Downs Regional Council mayor Andrew Smith said the boy was a contractor working at the yards when he was injured.

“Council is currently working closely with the contractor’s safety advisers to ensure the continued safety and support of all staff, contractors and operators at the Dalby Regional Saleyards,” he said.

The saleyards hold cattle auctions every Wednesday.

Workplace Health and Safety officials were at the yards on Wednesday morning.
