Ramos on Milan move: ‘The fans are incredible, I love feeling the support’

Goncalo Ramos has spoken about his first months at Milan, and the moment that made the scale of the club click for him came several thousand miles from San Siro.
Speaking to the club’s official channels, with quotes via MilanNews.it, the Portuguese striker recalled meeting Rossoneri supporters on the pre-season tour.
“I met Milan fans for the first time in Jakarta, where we have a lot of supporters,” he said. “It was incredible because we were on the other side of the world and we could clearly hear their support. You understand how big Milan is and how big our fans are, giving us strength at every match. I like feeling that support, in crucial moments it can be a big help.”
He also revealed he already had history with Ruben Amorim, from the Benfica-Sporting rivalry.
“I remember when we drew 2-2 against Sporting and I scored two goals against Amorim,” Ramos said. “I was very happy, but I didn’t speak to the coach, only to his staff members Carlos and Vital. Amorim already knew me at the time and I had already played a lot of games with Benfica.”
Ramos lacking goals but an important puzzle piece for Amorim’s Milan
The output has not yet matched the profile as Ramos arrived as the focal point of Amorim’s attack and has scored just once this season, a return that would ordinarily invite scrutiny at a club of Milan’s size.
What has kept the coaching staff onside is the rest of his game. Ramos drops in, links play and occupies defenders in a way that creates space for the two behind him, which matters in a 3-4-2-1 built around Christian Pulisic and Alphadjo Cisse finding pockets between the lines. Pulisic’s recent upturn is not unconnected.
He is also still adapting off the pitch. “I know some words like ciao, domani, attaccante, calcio, and I understand almost everything,” he said of his Italian.
Milan’s start has been solid rather than convincing, and the striker question will keep coming up while the goals do not. But Amorim brought Ramos here knowing exactly what he was getting, having faced him often enough in Lisbon.
