Westside Hospital has welcomed a lot of new faces through its doors six episodes into the latest season of Doc. The hit medical drama entered Season 3 on Fox with a reinforced recurring cast, including For All Mankind's Barrett Carnahan and a pair of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy stars, Raffa Virago and Cecilia Lee, in key roles. After making his debut in Season 2, Blair Underwood has also become a regular as Chief of Surgery Dr. Ben Grant, playing heavily into the show's storylines given his connection to Amy Larsen's (Molly Parker) past and not exactly making friends since taking his lofty post at the hospital. Behind all of them, however, is another scene-stealer that's become a constant presence behind Dr. Larsen and her team.
Following his appearance in the Netflix teen drama My Life with the Walter Boys and the wildly popular Heated Rivalry, Season 3 has also welcomed Kolton Stewart to the fold as the youngest intern at Westside, Kyle Ferguson. Doc's return takes place after a brief time jump following the Season 2 finale's virus outbreak disaster, which has given the bright new medical minds an entry point into the hospital's operations. Even amongst the interns, Kyle sticks out as the prodigy of the group who was homeschooled growing up, being both brilliant and remarkably sincere. However, he's also shown plenty of room for growth early on as he learns to apply his book smarts with the practical, working knowledge of a hospital.
Stewart's Kyle has been right there by the side of Doc's more seasoned professionals, including in this week's episode, "Facade." He's seen alongside Amy and Jake (Jon Ecker) as they join forces to save a patient whose secret past puts her life in grave danger. As it turned out, their patient was a former drug mule in witness protection, in desperate need of medical attention after years of abuse and a botched surgery. Throughout it all, Kyle makes a strong impression on Amy with his observations and shows his growth during a difficult operation that requires them to work on the closed fourth floor in secrecy.
