Suspected bandit informant arrested in Sokoto

Security operatives have arrested a suspected informant accused of supplying information to bandits operating around the Romo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar of Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was allegedly working with criminal elements in Tambuwal.

Abubakar was reportedly linked to a threat issued to Romo residents, who were allegedly given an ultimatum to pay N10m or risk an attack.

The arrest comes amid renewed security concerns in Tambuwal and neighbouring communities, where residents have protested recent attacks and kidnappings.

Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, told our correspondent that the suspect had been charged to court.

Rufai said the arrest followed investigations into Abubakar’s alleged activities and links with criminal elements.

He added that the command would continue to act against individuals suspected of aiding criminal activities in the state.

Residents of affected communities have called for increased security presence and improved intelligence-led operations to prevent further attacks and facilitate the return of displaced residents.
