A man has been charged amid an investigation into reports of a gunman in Sydney's inner west, police say.

NSW Police were called to a car park in Dulwich Hill about 10:20am on Friday after reports of a stolen vehicle.

Officers were told a man was allegedly armed with a firearm inside a reported stolen vehicle before setting fire to it.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire with no injuries reported.

The man left the scene on foot, sending the area into lockdown.

Police established a crime scene and began a search for the alleged gunman.

Strike Force Ranilo was established to investigate the incident.

On Sunday night, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Burwood after allegedly attempting to evade police.

Paramedics treated the man for a minor injury sustained during the arrest, before he was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment under police guard.

He was then taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with seven offences including possessing a shortened firearm without authority, and robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.
