Andrew Scott to Reprise Role in ‘Sea Wall’ Off-Broadway for Feature Film Capture

Andrew Scott will star in a new feature film version of the play Sea Wall.

The filmed version of the solo play, written by Simon Stephens, will be captured during 19 performances at the Off-Broadway theater Studio Seaview from Oct. 16 through Oct. 30. The film will also include behind-the-scenes shots of backstage, the audience and more. Tina Satter, who created and directed Is This a Room, will direct.

Stephens originally wrote Sea Wall as an onstage monologue for Scott more than a decade ago, with Scott performing the piece in London and in Edinburgh. The story follows Alex, a photographer and young father in London, who faces an unexpected accident by the seaside, which forces him to contend with how quickly an idyllic life can slip away. 

A filmed version of the play, featuring Scott, was originally released in 2012. The production takes place just before the theatrical release of Elsinore in November, starring Scott.

A version of the play ran on Broadway in 2019, starring Tom Sturridge. It was paired with another solo monologue, A Life, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and written by Nick Payne, about a man expecting the birth of his first child while dealing with the death of his father. 

Sea Wall will be produced on stage by Seaview, Spencer Ross, Steven Demmler, Linden Productions, Both/And Productions and Pam Hurst-Della Pietra & Stephen Della Pietra.

Creative team for Sea Wall includes lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Ben Williams. Paul Yee is the director of photography for the film and Parker Lutz will advise on production design.
