The Philippine National Police (PNP) is monitoring a low-level threat to the upcoming 49th ASEAN Summit this month, according to PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Friday.

In an ambush interview, Nartatez said the PNP has been preparing for the meetings involving heads of state.

"We are eyeing a low-level threat as of now," Nartatez said.

According to the police chief, the PNP will secure the attendees including visiting VIPs and delegates, as well as the venues.

Nartatez said the police force has sufficient personnel, logistical resources, and funding to carry out its security preparations.

The PNP will also coordinate with other government agencies and local government units hosting the ASEAN activities.

"We will be using our resources fully and we'll be declaring the necessary alert status of the Philippine National Police," Nartatez said.
