LTFRB to PUV operators, drivers: Honor fare discounts

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Sunday warned operators and drivers of public utility vehicles that they may face penalties for not honoring fare discounts provided for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
The 20 percent fare discount for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities is mandated under Republic Act (RA) No. 9994, RA No. 11314, and RA No. 10754, respectively.

“We expect all the operators to give a gentle reminder to their drivers and conductors about the mandatory fare discount. Remember, damay kayo sa anumang reklamo at insidente ng paglabag sa regulasyong ito,” Pua said in a press release.
Pua added that aside from the penalty for violating the laws, the Certificate of Public Convenience of the public utility vehicles (PUVs) may be canceled or suspended.

Pua also advised drivers and operators of PUVs to be courteous to passengers at all times and extend assistance to them if necessary. He then encouraged netizens to report incidents of abuse to the agency’s hotline 1342 and its official social media accounts.
The LTFRB earlier said that it had already approved special permits for 1,131 buses for this year’s Undas. Meanwhile, the PITX earlier projected nearly 1.8 million passengers in its terminal from Oct. 25, 2026 to Nov. 4, 2026. /cb
