Fuel Discount: Makinde asks Tinubu to release petroleum pricing template

Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Alliance People’s Movement (APM) and governor of Oyo State, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to publish the pricing template for petroleum products.
He said this is to enable Nigerians understand how pump prices are determined.
Mr Makinde made the call on Saturday in Yola, Adamawa State, during the APM North-east town hall meeting, where party stakeholders and candidates strategised ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His demand comes amid continued concerns over rising petrol prices and the federal government’s efforts to ease the burden on consumers.
On Friday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited announced that it would extend a petrol discount introduced on 1 October to 31 October across its retail stations nationwide.
The state-owned oil company said the discount was intended to provide temporary relief to Nigerians amid elevated global crude oil prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East.
NNPC, however, clarified that the initiative did not amount to a restoration of petroleum subsidy or establish a uniform national pump price.
The company said the discount applied only to its retail outlets and did not change the market-based pricing framework for petroleum products.
Makinde criticises Tinubu’s policies
Speaking at the town hall meeting, Mr Makinde accused the Tinubu administration of failing to deliver on its promises, arguing that its policies had not significantly improved the country’s situation.
He questioned the effectiveness of government initiatives on compressed natural gas (CNG), electric vehicles, the naira-for-crude policy, insecurity and poverty reduction.
“Give us your pricing templates so that we can make our inputs as Nigerians, because government is for everyone, not only those in the corridor of power,” he said.
Mr Makinde said that if elected president in 2027, he would address the country’s challenges with sincerity and involve Nigerians in developing solutions.
He also promised to establish a transitional government of national unity that would give people from the six geopolitical zones an opportunity to contribute to national development.
“If given the mandate by Nigerian voters in 2027, our government will not allow one section of the country to dominate the system, rather it will be a transitional government of national unity,” he said.
APM seeks support ahead of 2027
In his remarks, Bala Mohammed, the party’s national leader and governor of Bauchi State, commended party members and stakeholders for supporting Mr Makinde’s visit to the North-east.

Mr Mohammed described the APM as a credible political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges and urged Nigerians to support the party and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
He said the party was committed to improving governance, addressing citizens’ needs and fulfilling its campaign promises.
Speaking on behalf of the party’s governorship candidates in the zone, Abdulrahaman Haske, the APM candidate in Adamawa State, said the candidates were working towards securing victory in 2027.
He urged party leaders, members and stakeholders to intensify campaigns across their states, local government areas, wards and polling units to challenge the ruling party.
