Malaria: Zamfara begins fumigation against mosquitoes

Governor Dauda Lawal approved a state-wide fumigation against mosquitoes and other insects to curb the spread of Malaria and other mosquito-related illnesses.

Executive Chairman, Zamfara State Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency (ZEPEA), Muhammad Zangina Abdullahi, announced this while flagging off the distribution of fumigation materials for the exercise in Gusau yesterday.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Ministry of Environmental and Natural Resources said the exercise would cover various parts of the state, beginning with selected wards in Gusau metropolis, including Mayana, Sabon Gari, Tudun Wada, Madawaki and Galadima wards.

The exercise will help depopulate mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects that pose a threat to human health and contribute to the spread of malaria and other diseases.

He commended Governor Lawal for approving the fumigation exercise on time to promote public health and improve environmental sanitation.

The agency also deployed its personnel and monitoring teams to supervise the fumigation exercise across the approved areas.

In the Mayana ward, the exercise was led by Sanitarian Kabiru Muhammad Maru, who explained that the fumigation commenced at the residence of the District Head of Mayana, Alhaji Mustapha Musa Mayana.

He added that the team subsequently fumigated an Almajiri school adjacent to Gadar Farna in Mayana ward.

He urged residents and beneficiaries of the fumigation exercise to always keep their surroundings clean.
