Woman found dead in Jos wildlife park

The mutilated body of an unidentified woman has been found near a stream inside the Jos Wildlife Park Forest Reserve in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The discovery was made around 9:30am on Thursday following a distress report to security operatives.

Security sources told our correspondent that the woman had reportedly been declared missing by her family after she failed to return home.

The family was said to have launched a search for her, which eventually led to the discovery of her corpse near a stream within the forest reserve.

The sources said the woman had injuries on her arm and face, which appeared to be machete cuts.

A staff member of the park, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said security operatives were immediately alerted after the body was discovered.

“We woke up and discovered the body and immediately contacted the security operatives,” the staff member said.

He added, “The security personnel came to the scene and commenced their initial assessment while efforts were made to establish what happened.”

Security authorities have reportedly commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and whether criminal elements were involved.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, and other security agencies were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
