The Marvel Cinematic Universe's X-Men reboot features a lineup of fresh new faces, but one particular star isn't entirely new to Marvel Studios.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Adam Driver revealed some surprising information about his relationship with Marvel. The Academy Award nominee is set to portray Nathaniel Milbury, better known as the villain Mister Sinister, in the highly anticipated X-Men reboot. Directed by Jake Schreier, the movie will introduce a new generation of mutants to the MCU, with Driver joining a massive ensemble cast that includes several rising stars.

Driver revealed how he has been offered roles by Marvel Studios before. However, up until now, he has declined all of them. During the discussion, the actor explained why he finally decided to join the Marvel Universe after years of unsuccessful recruitment efforts. According to Driver, his longtime appreciation for the X-Men characters played a major role in his decision.

Driver told the late-night host that growing up as a fan of the superhero mutant team and pretending to be Wolverine while playing with his cousin who took on the part of Sabretooth. As a result, these childhood memories played a significant role in why he was more inclined to say yes when he was offered the role of Mister Sinister.

Although Driver spent years rejecting MCU roles, he made it clear that he genuinely likes Marvel's franchises. He further elaborated, saying that the timing and circumstances surrounding the X-Men reboot made the project more appealing for him. The actor added that Schreier's creative direction convinced him to finally enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Question 1 of 3

Despite his enthusiasm, Driver admitted that joining such a recognizable franchise comes with a lot of pressure. The actor said that the film would attract a massive audience, meaning any shortcomings in his performance could be picked apart by fans who loved his villainous character. However, the actor assured viewers that, as someone who loved X-Men growing up, he intends to do justice to both the property and the supervillain.

Driver's character, Mister Sinister, is one of the X-Men's most infamous villains in Marvel Comics. Known for being a scientist who is obsessed with genetics, the character has frequently conducted experiments involving mutants and their abilities. Created by Chris Claremont, Mister Sinister was first mentioned in Uncanny X-Men #212 in 1986, appeared as a silhouette in the following issue, and made his full debut in The Uncanny X-Men #221 in 1987.
