PCG searches for fisherman after boat found burning off Batangas
LUCENA CITY — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is conducting search and rescue operations for a missing fisherman after his boat was found burning in the waters off Calatagan town in Batangas on Sunday (Sept. 13).
Local fishermen spotted the burning fishing boat, with no one aboard, about 500 meters southwest of the Cafe Santiago lighthouse in Barangay Bagong Silang, according to a report from the PCG-Batangas station.
The fishermen used another boat to tow the burning vessel toward the shoreline for safety and verification.

The family of 47-year-old fisherman Celideño Hernande, a resident of Barangay Tanagan, reported that he had been aboard the burned fishing boat “Onse Tres.”
According to Hernandez’s family, he left home at around 6 a.m. to go fishing. His son, however, could no longer recall what his father was wearing when he left.
The coast guard appealed to fishermen, boat operators, coastal residents, beach establishments, resort owners and other maritime stakeholders to immediately report any information or sighting that could help locate Hernandez. /jpv
