At the time of writing, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is finally out on the Nintendo Switch 2, and what a journey it has been. First launching back in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, it was the first entry in the beloved Nintendo franchise to offer players 3D graphics and now, after almost three decades, it is still considered one of the greatest video games of all time.

Despite receiving a remake back in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS, fans have been calling out for a modern-day Switch remake for the past few years, and it was earlier this year, amidst celebrations for The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary, that Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake would be arriving on 5 November.

Now a few days on from that launch, and there are still more exciting releases to come, as the beloved remake is set to receive official DLC.

It was ahead of the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake that Nintendo revealed amiibo support for the game. Each with their own exclusive unlocks, players will be able to access Young Link and Young Zelda when they arrive and, by using the accompanying code, will be able to add them to their game. The confusion here is that these amiibo are set to launch in 2027 rather than alongside the game.

It has not yet been revealed when in 2027 they will be released, but we can only hope that it is in the first few months, so that people are still playing through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. Alternatively, more amiibo inspired by the game could be in the pipeline, and perhaps launching slightly earlier.

Using the amiibo in the game will see Link and Zelda put on masks inspired by their younger looks. It is currently unclear if these masks will serve any purpose, or if they are simply decorational and a nod to their previous iterations. Nevertheless, it is cool to see how far the beloved gaming pair have come, and that is not to mention the improvement in graphics.

There are also a few more mysteries surrounding these upcoming amiibo releases. How will they be transferable to the game? Can they be scanned in exchange for rewards in-game? Not only that, but we have next to no idea when exactly they will launch, how much they will be, and if they are able to be pre-ordered ahead of time.

For now, we have more questions than answers, but there is no denying that these brand-new Link and Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake-inspired amiibo are pretty adorable, so we can only hope that they can be used for more than just decoration. That being said, if they are anything like previous amiibo released for titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, then using them could see the player earn repeatable resources such as money and ammo.
