A forgotten British thriller starring John Simm and Christina Ricci is now streaming for free on Channel 4. Released in 2002, Miranda follows Simm's Frank, a quiet librarian who meets a mysterious American woman, Miranda (Ricci), one day while at work.

The two begin a passionate, whirlwind affair, until one day Miranda vanishes without a trace. Frank desperately begins searching for her, but soon uncovers a chaotic world in which Miranda is not all she seems, unearthing several identities the woman has adopted over the years.

The cast also includes Kyle MacLachlan, John Hurt, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Matthew Marsh, Tamsin Greig, and Joanne Froggatt in her first film role.

Miranda was filmed on location across London and Scarborough, and released via Pathé Distribution, FilmFour Distributors, and Senator Filmverleih.

The film failed to impress critics at the time of its release, holding just a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Radio Times saying it includes "one of Christina Ricci's worst performances to date".

However, viewers had a more positive reception to the film, with one IMDB user writing: "Marc Munden's Miranda is a film that shows great visual style."

They continued: "Christina Ricci, as the mysterious Miranda is perfectly intense. Ms. Ricci deserves much better. Her character is not clear enough for most people to care for her."

Another said: "Miranda has nice performances, well-composed and lighted shots, snappy editing, whimsical and funny moment."

A third posted: "A quite underrated movie that's very well acted and shot. It's got good romance, decent humour, madness, spiced up with a good bit of sickness."

Miranda is streaming now on Channel 4.
