Kano pledges land for NIPR building

Awareness Walk by the Kano State chapter of NIPR to the Government House.
The Kano State Government has pledged to allocate land for the construction of a permanent facility for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in the state.
The Director-General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this on Saturday during an awareness walk by the Kano State chapter of the NIPR to the Government House.
Bature, who represented the governor, said Yusuf had also confirmed Kano State’s full participation in the World Public Relations Forum scheduled to hold from November 15 to 21, 2026, in Abuja.
“The first promise is that this road walk is staged in preparation for the World Public Relations Forum. His Excellency has confirmed full participation of Kano State in this first-ever World Public Relations Forum that is happening in Nigeria,” Bature said.
He said the governor had directed the Kano NIPR chapter to submit a formal request for land for the construction of the institute’s permanent facility.
“He directed me to ask the state chapter to write to him a request for allocation of land where the NIPR facility is going to be built in the future,” Bature said.
The Kano NIPR Chairman, Aliyu Yusuf, thanked Governor Yusuf for the support and commitments made to the institute.
He said the governor’s assurances would strengthen the activities of the institute and contribute to the professional development of public relations practitioners in the state.

Bature said the government would partner with the NIPR national and state chapters to promote training and retraining and ensure adherence to professional ethics.
“Kano State Government is willing to invest and partner with the NIPR national and state chapters to ensure that our new members are trained and retrained to ensure true adherence to the ethics of the practice of public relations in Kano State,” he said.
He also assured media and public relations practitioners of the government’s commitment to their safety and professional activities.
“As the media-friendly governor of the year 2025, His Excellency has assured the safety of journalists working in the state and the safety of all residents and visitors of Kano State,” Bature said.
Bature further disclosed that the state government had spent more than N150m in 2026 on welfare interventions for media and public relations professionals, including mobility, working tools, shelter and medical assistance.
He said the government remained willing to consider legitimate requests from professional bodies, including the NIPR, the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Correspondents Chapel.
The World Public Relations Forum, organised by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management and hosted by the NIPR, will be held under the theme, “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World.”
