Spring tides tomorrow: Check the coastal tide times

Translate

If you’re heading to the coast on Saturday, check the tide times before planning your activities.

Water levels change throughout the day, while wind, waves, swell and the shape of the seabed also affect conditions along the shore and at sea.

When will high and low tides occur on Saturday?

According to the South African Weather Service, spring tides bring higher high tides and lower low tides than usual.

These changes can affect swimming, surfing and fishing along the coast. Higher tides may cover rocks and reefs, while lower tides expose more of the shoreline.

Beachgoers, anglers and other coastal visitors should check tide times and sea conditions before heading out.

New moon brings spring tides to the coast

Spring tides occur when the Sun, Moon and Earth align during a new moon or full moon.

The next new moon is expected on Monday, 9 November 2026.

As the Sun and Moon’s gravitational pulls combine, they create a greater difference between high and low tides, resulting in higher high tides and lower low tides than usual

Beachgoers should also watch out for:

  • Strong currents: Rip currents can pull swimmers away from the shore, even when the sea looks calm.
  • Unexpected waves: Larger waves can catch people off guard, particularly near rocks and tidal pools.
  • Rising water levels: The incoming tide can quickly reduce the amount of beach available for walking or fishing.
  • Slippery rocks: Wet rocks and exposed reefs can make walking along the shoreline dangerous.

Check the latest weather and marine warnings before you head to the coast.
