Harry and Meghan to spend Christmas 'away from royals at Sandringham'

Translate

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning to take their children away from the UK for Christmas, despite their recent return.

However, the couple are expected to return to California for the festive season rather than join members of the Royal Family at Sandringham, where King Charles III traditionally hosts relatives for Christmas celebrations, MailOnline reports.

A friend said that the Sussexes are aiming to “keep their heads down between now and Christmas”, before travelling back to the US for the holidays.

The reported plans mean there is unlikely to be a festive reunion with the King or with Prince William, despite suggestions that the family's return to Britain could create opportunities to repair strained relationships.

MailOnline reported that the couple are also considering spending future school holidays and half-term breaks in either California or Portugal, where they are understood to own property.

The Sussexes have retained their Montecito home, which remains close to Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland. The 70-year-old has been a regular presence in the family's life since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and relocated to the United States in 2020.

A Christmas return to California would also allow Archie and Lilibet to spend time with their grandmother, who is said to have a close relationship with both children.

The reported travel plans come amid continued interest in the Sussexes' new life in Britain. Friends previously told the Standard that the couple's decision to return had been welcomed by some members of their social circle, although many remained surprised by the move after the pair spent years establishing themselves in California.

The latest reports suggest that while the Sussexes may now have a base in Britain, California remains central to their family life, particularly during school holidays and major celebrations.

Neither the Sussexes nor Buckingham Palace have commented on the reports.
