Religious Affairs Ministry unveils five Teachers' Day programs

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced five programs to commemorate National Teachers' Day 2026 on November 25, with activities designed to involve all educators under its authority.

"The Religious Affairs Ministry's events marking National Teachers' Day 2026 will certainly involve all teachers under our purview," Director General of Islamic Education Amien Suyitno said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said the participants would include more than 800,000 teachers under the ministry's Directorate of Teachers and Education Personnel, over 300,000 Islamic religious education teachers working at various schools, and educators serving under the ministry's non-Islamic religious education units.

The ministry's approach to this year's commemoration reflects its commitment to promoting inclusivity and recognizing educators from diverse backgrounds, he added.

Suyitno said the five programs would comprise an ecotheology campaign highlighting the connection between environmental sustainability and religious values, sports and team-building activities for teachers, a national symposium, commemorative ceremonies, and an appreciation night featuring awards for teachers and education personnel at Islamic schools.

He said the awards would cover several categories recognizing teachers' innovation, achievements, and dedication.

The ministry also plans to honor teachers who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and commitment while serving communities in disaster-affected areas and disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

"In this way, all teachers who have given their best to the nation will become an integral part of National Teachers' Day celebrations," Suyitno said.

He added that the national symposium would focus on AI-assisted learning models to help teachers make effective use of technological advances and adapt to ongoing changes in the education sector.

Suyitno said the ministry expected the series of activities to serve as a tribute to teachers while encouraging them to continue improving their skills and professionalism to help strengthen the national education system.
