Good injury news for key Orlando Pirates midfielder

Translate

Orlando Pirates have received a positive injury update on midfielder Sihle Nduli, easing fears that the 30-year-old could face another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Nduli suffered an ankle injury on 12 August during Orlando Pirates’ 1-1 Betway Premiership draw against AmaZulu at Kings Park Stadium.

The midfielder was injured following a heavy challenge from AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya.

The setback came at a particularly difficult time for Nduli, who had only just returned to competitive action after missing the entire second round of the previous campaign because of a long-term ligament injury.

Sihle Nduli steps up recovery

Nduli joined Orlando Pirates in June 2025 as a free agent from Stellenbosch FC and quickly established himself as an important member of the Buccaneers’ midfield.

He became a key component of Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side before his latest injury setback.

However, Orlando Pirates have now provided encouraging news on his recovery.

According to an update published by the club on Monday, Nduli has completed his latest rehabilitation stage and has started running.

Senior physiotherapist Kutlwano Molefe said the midfielder is expected to spend approximately two weeks undergoing field-based training before progressing towards full-team training.

The latest development means Nduli has avoided an immediate return to the treatment room for another prolonged period, although he still has rehabilitation work to complete before he can return to competitive action.

Orlando Pirates prepare for Mamelodi Sundowns MTN8 final

The timing of the update is significant, with Orlando Pirates using the current international break to work on the fitness and recovery of their squad.

The Buccaneers face a major test when they meet Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final on Saturday, 10 October.

They will then return to Betway Premiership action against TS Galaxy on 18 October.

For Ouaddou, Nduli’s eventual return could provide another midfield option as Orlando Pirates enter an important period of the season.
