MUNAI, Lanao del Norte — For 35-year-old Anisah Madkura, getting medicines for her allergies without spending money was a welcome relief as rising healthcare costs continue to burden families with limited means.

Madkura was among the residents of Barangay Lininding in Munai, Lanao del Norte, who received free medical consultations and medicines during a community outreach program conducted by the Philippine Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion on October 18.

She received cetirizine for allergies and paracetamol during the medical mission, which was held ahead of the battalion’s 49th founding anniversary.

The outreach program was conducted in partnership with the provincial government, the municipal government of Munai and barangay officials. It also featured gift-giving, tree planting, and recreational activities for children.

Munai Mayor Racma Andamama expressed gratitude for the military’s presence in the municipality, particularly its efforts to secure communities and provide medical assistance.

“This shows the importance of cooperation between the local government and the military in addressing community needs, especially those of vulnerable families struggling to afford basic health services,” Andamama said.

Lt. Col. Jeremy Damonsong, 44IB commander, said the initiative demonstrated that the military’s role extends beyond national defense to include community service and development.

He said the anniversary was an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of fallen soldiers, continue serving communities and work toward a safer, more peaceful and progressive future.

The battalion celebrated its 49th founding anniversary on October 20 at its headquarters in Nangka, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte, under the theme “49 Years of Courage and Commitment: Honoring the Past, Serving the Present, and Securing the Future.”
