These three players could win the MTN8 final for Sundowns

Translate

Sundowns trio Grant Kekana, Nuno Santos and Brayan León are likely to make the difference at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 18:00.

The supremely experienced and composed Kekana must keep the defence organised. Creative maestro Santos needs to unlock the Pirates defence. León will be the ruthless sniper up front.

GRANT KEKANA MUST KEEP SUNDOWNS SOLID

Kekana brings valuable experience and positional maturity to the Sundowns defence. The veteran centre-back must organise the backline, and maintain the team’s defensive structure under pressure.

The 33-year-old has been a reliable performer this season, recording an impressive 94,7% pass completion rate from 465 successful passes across his domestic appearances. He has also made 14 clearances and completed 21 accurate long balls to help initiate attacks from the back.

NUNO SANTOS AND BRAYAN LEÓN HAVE KEY ROLES

Santos will be expected to provide creativity and unlock the Pirates defence. Santos has already demonstrated his quality on the global stage through his performance in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. His spectacular brace secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Saudi giants Al Ahli, highlighting his ability to deliver in a high-pressure encounter.

Beyond his two goals, Santos recorded 40 accurate passes, completed 6 ball recoveries and won 4 physical duels to help his team transition between defence and attack.

Meanwhile, León will carry much of the responsibility in front of goal. The Colombian striker has previously troubled Pirates, scoring a decisive, match-winning brace against the Buccaneers.

León has registered 3 goals and 1 assist in 7 league starts this season. He has also recorded 21 total shots, with 11 hitting the target, and created 5 major scoring opportunities.

His physical work rate, movement and finishing ability make him a major attacking threat for Sundowns. The Colombian will need to take advantage of the chances created by his teammates if the Brazilians are to lift the MTN8 trophy.
