Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi, husband of Anulika Onyeanusia, the 36-year-old woman arrested for using a sex toy on her underage daughter, has shed light on the sexual molestation incident.

PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that the police in Anambra State arrested Mrs Onyeanusia on Friday in connection with the incident.

The suspect, according to the police, was under investigation for child pornography.

The couple resides in Onitsha, where police officers recovered sex toys and other unnamed items from the suspect, which will aid the ongoing investigation.

Police said they also rescued four children, aged two, three, six, and nine years, from the suspect.

‘I never knew’

Speaking in a video clip uploaded on Facebook on Saturday, Mr Onyeanusia said he was unaware that his wife had been sexually molesting his daughter until a day earlier.

He said he only discovered his wife’s actions on Thursday evening from a friend who showed him clips of the incident.

“I saw the video. It was my wife and my daughter. She (my wife) was molesting the child. I got confused and wondered if that was real,” he recalled.

Mr Onyeanusia said he confronted his wife over the clips, but she initially denied the allegations, claiming they were generated using Artificial Intelligence.

He said he was still probing his wife’s claims when police operatives arrived at his residence to arrest both of them.

“When they were interrogating her at the police station, she admitted committing the offence,” he said.

The husband further said that his wife had also confirmed to police investigators that he was not aware of her activities.

“That was when I turned and asked her, ‘Did you really do this?’ and she said, ‘Yes.’

“I got weak. I asked her, ‘How can you do this kind of thing?’ I sat at the police station, confused about the whole thing,” he recounted.

Mr Onyeanusia said he decided to make this video because he knew many people would have thought that he knew about his wife’s activities.

“I am totally disappointed with my wife. I never believed she could do this kind of thing, even to our daughter,” he said.

Prohibited in Nigeria

Sexual exploitation and child pornography are both illegal in Nigeria.

Section 32 of the Child Rights Act 2003 prohibits sexual abuse and exploitation of children in the country.

Upon conviction, offenders are liable to 14 years imprisonment, according to Section 32(2) of the Act.

Child pornography is outlawed in Section 17 (1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition), Enforcement and Administration Act 2015.

Section 17(2) prescribes imprisonment for a term of not less than seven years and a fine of not less than N1 million for convicted offenders.

Even the Cybercrimes Act 2024 also criminalised child pornography.

Several people had been convicted of either child pornography or sexual exploitation of children in Nigeria.

In June 2025, the Federal High Court in Lagos convicted and sentenced Olukeye Adeayo Olalekan to 76 years’ imprisonment for child pornography-related charges.

A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, in 2024, sentenced a man, Nurudeen Nasiru, to life imprisonment for introducing porn videos to his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter and sexually assaulting her.
