Drama as Sifuna blocked from entering JKUAT Karen campus

Translate

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was on Thursday blocked from entering JKUAT's Karen campus ahead of a governance forum he had been invited to address, before he was eventually allowed in for a private meeting with university management.

Mr Sifuna had been invited by the Jomo Kenyatta University Students' Association to attend the inaugural Law, Policy and Governance Forum, scheduled to bring together students and guests for discussions on the role of law in shaping governance and public policy, including the part students can play in shaping national affairs.

Student leaders said university management was aware of the event and the planned panel discussion. However, Mr Sifuna was kept at the campus gates for some time as efforts continued to establish why he had not been granted access.

Those behind the forum claimed the event had been abruptly cancelled, though it was not immediately clear who had ordered the cancellation or why.

We came to JKUAT Karen on the invitation of the student leadership for their Inaugural Law, Policy and Governance forum but the Administration has abruptly “cancelled “ the event and denied us access to the institution. Totally uncalled for. pic.twitter.com/mgEIWDnCyv

Mr Sifuna was eventually granted access to the premises, where he held a private meeting with university management. It remains unclear whether the Law, Policy and Governance Forum will proceed as originally planned.
