Emmerdale reveals first look at Joe Tate's fury after Vinny's confession

Emmerdale has released a first-look clip of the moment that Vinny Dingle confesses to Joe Tate that he was responsible for the crash that killed both Jimmy King and Dawn Fletcher.

The guilt over taking his eyes off the road while answering a call from Gabby Thomas, which caused Jimmy to swerve into the wedding marquee, proved to be too much for Vinny. But while he thinks that coming clean is the right thing to do, Joe is less happy to hear it.

In the scene from Wednesday's (23 September) episode, a nervous Vinny struggles to get the words out.

"I didn't know there'd been an accident," he said. "I just... I just saw him swerve – Jimmy. Sorry, not Jimmy – a car that was him.

"And obviously I know now, but I thought nothing had happened. And I was answering a phone call, not making one. Not that that makes... I know it's not better, okay? But I was just... I was excited about getting engaged."

Joe walked towards him with a tranquil fury, before erupting in anger: "Oh, I understand. I do, having been engaged myself. Only my fiancée was KILLED!"

Billy soon walked in and tried to defuse the situation, saying: "Look, do we need whatever this is? Don't you think the kids are upset enough?"

"Billy, I'd like to introduce you to the driver of the other car," Joe replied. "The one that made Jimmy swerve, and, well, you know the rest. Vinny was on the phone."

Vinny actor Bradley Johnson admitted that his characters knows Joe was going to react badly, stating: "The whole village knows what Joe Tate is like."

However, he didn't doubt that Vinny would tell the truth, no matter what happens.

"Whatever the consequences are, Vinny's decided he's going to take them – whether that's getting beaten up or going to the police," the actor concluded.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
