Fifth Ajayi Elebire basketball camp tips off Monday

Translate

The fifth edition of the Ajayi Elebire Elite Basketball Camp will begin on Monday with a screening exercise in Lagos, as organisers say preparations are in top gear.

The founder of the camp and former international basketball player, Olalekan Ajayi, said the annual development programme would return to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, for the second year running after the success of last year’s edition. The camp was established in honour of his late father, Babatunde Elebire Ajayi.

Ajayi said foreign coaches would arrive in Nigeria on Monday, October 19, and go straight to the Lagos screening to select the best players from Lagos and neighbouring states.

“I can bet you that we are going to be having a bigger and better camping this time around,” he said.

“The foreign coaches are going to be arriving in Nigeria on Monday and will head straight to the Lagos screening to select the best players from Lagos and other states within the vicinity before proceeding to Ado-Ekiti.”

He said the organisers wanted to build on last year’s achievements, when 10 players were awarded scholarships.

“Last edition, we gave out scholarships to 10 players, and we are waiting for the coaches to arrive and see how many will be making it this time around,” Ajayi said.

The selected players and coaches will travel to Ado-Ekiti on October 20, and the training camp will run from October 21 to 23. It will end with an All-Stars game on October 23, and participants will depart on October 24.
