Translate

Ghana has secured a major leadership position in African tennis following the election of Ghana Federation (GTF) President, Isaac Aboagye Duah, as head of the West Africa Zone and Vice President of Africa.

Mr Duah was elected unopposed at the Tennis Africa Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Luanda, Angola, on November 7, 2026.

His election fills the vacancy created by the passing of former West Africa Zone President, Ing. Ifedayo Akindoju Dayo, last year.

The West Africa Zone comprises 15 countries, making his election an important opportunity for Ghana to play a greater role in shaping the future of tennis across the sub-region and the African continent.

A Decade of Leadership And Development

Mr Duah has served as President of the Ghana Tennis Federation since 2017, with his administration focusing on inclusive governance, stakeholder engagement and the development of tennis in Ghana.

One of his notable achievements has been championing the recognition of players, coaches, officials and clubs as delegates at the Federation’s highest decision-making body, giving key stakeholders a voice in the administration of the sport.

He has also promoted an open-door policy, encouraging tennis clubs and foundations to collaborate with the Federation and organise internationally recognised World Tennis competitions.

Under his leadership, Ghana has maintained participation in West African junior competitions over the past nine years, recorded notable achievements in African Under-12 competitions and continued to represent the country in the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup.

Mr Duah also serves on the African Cup of Nations Sub-Committee of Tennis Africa, contributing to the development of the sport at the continental level.

Vision For African Tennis

Speaking after his election, Mr Duah expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to promote unity, collaboration and inclusive leadership across African tennis.

He said his priority would be to strengthen national federations, develop players and officials, attract investment and create sustainable opportunities for the next generation of African tennis players.

He further emphasised the importance of working closely with the 15 West African member countries and other stakeholders to improve governance and make African tennis more competitive on the global stage.

Strong Academic Background

Beyond sports administration, Mr Duah has an impressive academic background. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), a Master of Arts in Leadership and Management, and a Chartered Marketer qualification from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.

He received his secondary education at Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary in Koforidua.

His election as President of the Tennis Africa West Africa Zone and Vice President of Tennis Africa marks a significant milestone for Ghanaian sports administration and presents an opportunity to strengthen Ghana’s influence in the development of tennis across Africa.

The Ghana Tennis Federation has congratulated its President on his election and expressed confidence in his continued contribution to the growth of tennis at both national and continental levels.
