Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Delta State for the 2027 election, has expressed sadness over the reported passing of former governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing him as an elder brother with whom he shared a relationship built on mutual respect.

Iyovwaye, in a condolence statement he personally signed, said he received the news of Uduaghan’s death with a heavy heart, recalling their personal relationship beyond political affiliations.

Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015, having previously served as Secretary to the State Government. His administration pursued the Delta Beyond Oil initiative to diversify the state’s economy.

Describing the former governor as more than a political figure, Iyovwaye said Uduaghan was a medical doctor and a proud son of Delta State who devoted much of his life to public service.

“To me, he was more than a former governor. He was an elder brother whom I held in high regard. Our relationship went beyond political affiliations, and I will always cherish the moments we shared, our conversations, and the mutual respect that existed between us,” he said.

Iyovwaye added that history would continue to assess Uduaghan’s years in office, while his contributions to Delta State would remain part of the state’s development journey.

He extended his condolences to the former governor’s wife, children, the Uduaghan family, the Itsekiri nation and the people of Delta State.
