The Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Taiwo Adelakun, has disclosed that the church’s investment in education was aimed at supporting government efforts and raising a new generation of Nigerian leaders equipped with sound academic knowledge, moral values and the fear of God.

He explained that the faith-based institutions have a responsibility to contribute to national development by producing young people who could apply their education and values to addressing societal challenges.

Adelakun, while addressing journalists at the institution premises in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday, ahead of the activities marking the 4th Convocation ceremony of the university, said, “The church’s investment in education is aimed at supporting government efforts and to raise a new generation of leaders equipped with sound academic knowledge, moral values and the fear of God.

“We are investing in education because we want to raise children and academics who have the fear of God and can stand firmly on their values.”

The cleric explained that the university’s investment in education was part of the church’s contributions to developing human capacity and preparing young people for responsible leadership.

He said, “The combined efforts of the Oyo, Ogun and Lagos State Governments have helped improve security along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor. The university works with security agencies and has arrangements for monitoring activities around the institution, including police patrols and other security measures.”

Adelakun, therefore, assured parents of improved security within and around the institution, saying, “security measures put in place over the past three years had strengthened the university’s security architecture.”

Adelakun urged the parents to consider the institution for their children, describing its environment as secure and conducive to academic excellence.

In his remarks, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jonah Akoun, highlighted the academic achievements of the university’s graduating students, including Nadia Rita Bayakly, who graduated with a First-Class degree in Mass Communication and a cumulative grade point average of 5.0.

Akoun noted that university education should equip the students not only with academic qualifications but also with the capacity to drive social transformation, emphasizing the responsibility of graduates to contribute meaningfully to the society.
