Gauteng residents can expect a warm and mostly clear Saturday before cooler temperatures and showers move into the province on Sunday.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), Johannesburg and Pretoria will remain dry on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees Celsius in both cities.

Warm and dry start to the weekend

Saturday will bring mostly clear skies to both Pretoria and Johannesburg, giving residents a warm and dry start to the weekend.

Pretoria will start the day at around 11 degrees Celsius before temperatures rise to 16 degrees Celsius by 8am. The temperature will continue climbing and reach a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius during the afternoon.

Johannesburg will start slightly cooler at 9 degrees Celsius before reaching a high of 24 degrees Celsius.

SAWS expects no rain in either city on Saturday.

Gauteng weather changes on Sunday

Conditions will change on Sunday as showers and cooler temperatures move into Gauteng.

Pretoria could receive rain showers during the early hours before cloudy conditions develop in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius.

Johannesburg will feel noticeably cooler, with the maximum temperature dropping to 19 degrees Celsius.

Rain showers could develop during the early hours, while showers and thundershowers are expected during the afternoon.

Both cities have a 30% chance of rain, with around 5mm forecast.

Winds pick up

Winds will also strengthen across Johannesburg and Pretoria on Sunday, reaching around 18.52km/h.

The weekend forecast shows a clear shift from warm and dry conditions on Saturday to cooler and wetter weather on Sunday.

Residents planning outdoor activities should check the latest forecast before heading out, as conditions can change.
