BMC Demolishes part of Bungalow: Civic body razes Ajay home section

Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Juhu bungalow partly demolished by BMC, days after stop-work notice

Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Juhu bungalow has had a section demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), just days after the civic body served the actors a stop-work notice over alleged unauthorised construction.

The action at the couple’s home in one of Mumbai’s most upscale neighbourhoods has drawn considerable attention, given their stature in Bollywood. The notice reportedly pointed to structural additions made without the necessary civic approvals, and the demolition appears to be the BMC’s follow-through on its order.

BMC action at Ajay Devgn’s bungalow in Kapole Co-operative Housing Society

According to a report by NDTV, the BMC has acted against Ajay’s 7,802-square-foot bungalow in the Kapole Co-operative Housing Society in Juhu, Mumbai.

The civic body alleges that work including internal alterations, partition walls and window modifications was being carried out at the property without the required municipal approvals.

BMC stop-work notice to Ajay Devgn over salon and spa

As reported by Hindustan Times in September, the BMC served a stop-work notice on September 10 over the ongoing work on a proposed salon and spa at the property. Issued under Section 354A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, the notice ordered an immediate halt to the work and asked for valid documents to be submitted.

Construction at the bungalow, however, allegedly carried on despite the notice.

Why BMC issued notice to Ajay Devgn’s family

The notice followed a complaint from the Kapole Co-operative Housing Society, which opposed the property being rented out for commercial use. Residents flagged concerns over greater customer footfall, parking, security and noise on the society’s narrow internal lanes. Local corporator Sudha Singh added that the BMC’s Building and Factory Department had found no permission for the proposed commercial use on record.

After the civic body asked the owners for the necessary documents and they were not provided, the stop-work notice was issued. The Devgn family had requested four weeks to respond.
