El Nido sends team to Coron to aid MV June Aster passengers’ kin

CALAPAN CITY — The municipal government of El Nido has sent a team to Coron to coordinate with authorities and assist families affected by the MV June Aster maritime tragedy.

The El Nido Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said Tuesday (Sept. 15) that it was extending its condolences and support to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew involved in the incident.

Acting on the directive of Mayor Edna Gacot-Lim, the municipality dispatched MDRRMO representative Raymond Osorio, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) representative Eymard Fulgencio, and Municipal Gender and Development representative Jan Gibb Relata to Coron.

The team is coordinating with the Coron local government, Atienza Shipping Line Corp., Coron MDRRMO and MSWDO, the police Scene of the Crime Operations unit, and other agencies involved in the response and recovery operations.

The El Nido MDRRMO said it understood the anxiety and grief experienced by families seeking information about their loved ones and assured them that coordination with concerned agencies was continuing.

Families seeking information about passengers or crew members were urged to contact the official Facebook page of the Municipal Government of El Nido so their concerns and relevant information could be properly relayed to authorities.

The municipal government also appealed to families to rely on verified and timely information from authorities as efforts to establish the status of those involved in the tragedy continue. /mcm
