Bulog posts Rp2.6 trillion profit as rice aid expands

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's State Logistics Agency (Bulog) posted a Rp2.6 trillion (about US$145 million) profit through September 26, driven in part by rice distribution and government food assistance.

“Bulog is now profit-oriented,” President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said here Thursday, adding that the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) had reviewed the figure.

He said earnings were driven partly by rice distribution under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program and government food assistance.

Food aid reaches about 33.2 million beneficiaries each month, he said.

The program forms part of the government's 2026 stimulus policy, which provides food assistance for eight months.

“Distribution volumes have been extraordinary, spanning both SPHP rice and the food-aid program,” Ramdhani added.

He said the high volume of rice distribution had contributed significantly to Bulog's financial performance.

Beyond boosting the company's results, the assistance also benefits households by helping stabilize food prices, particularly rice, he said.

“Monthly profits have been quite high, and people are happy that prices remain stable,” Ramdhani said.

The government has extended the program to provide 10 kilograms of rice per family each month from October through December 2026.

The three months' assistance will be distributed in a single batch, giving each beneficiary family 30 kilograms of rice. The program targets 33,244,408 families in deciles one through four.

The government has allocated Rp17.5 trillion (about US$978 million) for the program as part of its fourth-quarter 2026 economic stimulus package.

Ramdhani said Bulog was ready to distribute the October-December assistance and was awaiting an official distribution order.

He said the rice had already been prepared and packaged, making it ready for immediate distribution.

“The sooner, the better. We have finished packing the rice into sacks, and it is ready for distribution. The total volume is 996,000 tons,” he said.
